“Up North – Good for Your Soul”

Located in Oneida County, in the far northeastern portion of Wisconsin, is Minocqua. Originally established in 1888 as Maniwaki, the city is a flourishing tourist destination. Minocqua has a wide variety of accommodations, from rustic cabins to luxury condominium suites. The city also boasts fine dining, abundant outdoor recreation, attractions, and historical museums.

Minocqua has one of the largest concentrations of freshwater bodies in the world, providing endless outdoor recreational opportunities for four seasons of fun in the Northwoods.

Oneida County covers an area of about 1124 sq. miles. Minocqua itself (derived from the Indian word “Ninocqua” (meaning noon day rest) is located at the northern-most part of the county on an island believed to be a campground for the Chippewa during their travels…

Along with the nearby towns of Woodruff, Arbor Vitae and Hazelhurst, the greater Minocqua area is well known as a water sports haven. This is due to its more than 3,200 lakes, streams, and ponds. Enjoy world-class fishing, boating, and water-skiing, along with golf, biking and hiking, and countless other summer activities. But it doesn’t stop there. The greater Minocqua area is a four-season vacation paradise. Come experience it for yourself and see why they say that: “up north is good for your soul!” – R. Karl

Angler, Author & Epicure

Fishing since the age of eight.  Seriously writing since the age of 16. Chef and foodie from the age of 22 years… and counting. So much to learn and so little time. I have enjoyed every minute of it all.  Whether on the water (where I like it best), in the kitchen, or at the keyboard, churning out content, I feel like I have found my place.  I am sharing it with you in the hope that some of what I love to do will rub off on you. I hope to see you On the Lake!
