A great tartar sauce is so easy to make. Yet there are so many restaurants that don’t make it fresh. They usually end up buying a whopping big jar from one of the food distributors. It is pretty blah, at best.

At your house? There’s really no need to ever buy a bottle of it from the grocery store again. You probably have all the ingredients on hand already and the best part is, this recipe doesn’t have the additional preservatives and corn syrup that the premade sauces have. Experiment with the amount of the Tabasco sauce to get just the right amount of heat for your tastes.
Tartar Sauce Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise (I prefer an olive oil based mayo)
- 2 Tablespoons chopped bread & butter pickles or sweet relish
- 2 Tablespoons finely chopped onion (best with Vidalia onions, if you get them)
- Tabasco sauce to taste (5-10 drops)
- Dash of Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- Dash of celery salt
Instructions
Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Store covered in refrigerator until ready to use. Serve with fried fish or use as a spread with a fish sandwich. Brings a smile to my face every time Heidi prepares it before one of our fish dinners!
See – I told you it was easy!
