Fishing & Boating in the Northwoods

Safety & Preparedness

You will save yourself a lot of anguish, a lot of fishing time and maybe even a life if you and your boat are properly equipped, (See Boating Regulations by state) before you leave the dock.

Because once you are out on the water, it is too late to discover that a very important item is missing. This applies whether you are taking that old, beat up “John” boat to a farm pond or that brand new Lund to the backwoods of Minnesota.

It’s very important to ask yourself some difficult questions, like

  • Is my first aid kit on board (and, has it been updated and re-supplied)?
  • Do I have the proper PFDs for everyone who will come aboard?
  • Do I have the required emergency items (up-to-date fire extinguishers, etc.)?
  • Am I prepared for any emergency situation that might arise?

Answers to these and other questions will go a long ways toward ensuring that you – and everyone else that may be onboard – will have a pleasurable and worry free day On the Lake!

Fishing since the age of eight.  Seriously writing since the age of 16. Chef and foodie from the age of 22 years… and counting. So much to learn and so little time. I have enjoyed every minute of it all.  Whether on the water (where I like it best), in the kitchen, or at the keyboard, churning out content, I feel like I have found my place.  I am sharing it with you in the hope that some of what I love to do will rub off on you. I hope to see you On the Lake!
