Fishing & Boating in the Northwoods

On the Water

From the US Coast Guard News: “The Coast Guard released a summary of the 2022 recreational boating incidents on May 11 of 2023, revealing there were 636 boating fatalities nationwide in 2022, a 3.3 percent decrease from the 658 deaths in 2021.”

That’s good news, and certainly better than the 700 lives lost as a result of recreational boating accidents in the U.S. in 2016. Except that “Alcohol continued to be the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating accidents in 2022, accounting for 88 deaths, or 16 percent of total fatalities.”

Like driving an automobile, having a boat on the water comes with a lot of responsibilities. Whether insuring your boat, driving your boat responsibly, boating safely, or knowing navigational markers… and a whole lot more, it’s important to learn rules and follow them. These On the Water articles are a great place to start! I hope to see you On the Lake!

Fishing since the age of eight.  Seriously writing since the age of 16. Chef and foodie from the age of 22 years… and counting. So much to learn and so little time. I have enjoyed every minute of it all.  Whether on the water (where I like it best), in the kitchen, or at the keyboard, churning out content, I feel like I have found my place.  I am sharing it with you in the hope that some of what I love to do will rub off on you. I hope to see you On the Lake!
