Hello everybody,
The Walleye fishing has been much improved over the last week or two. I had the opportunity to spend more time on them this week and it has paid off for me. We were able to catch them on a couple of different presentations and in a number of different locations.
Lindy rigs tipped with crawlers and leeches and even a few minnows were effective for us. I was also able to catch a number of fish trolling crank baits along the breaks and out in open water, around some large mainlake structures. Most of this action has come in Big bay on the east end, I have not been on the west side in a number of days.
BORDER VIEW LODGE - LAKE OF THE WOODS
Midsummer on Lake of the Woods: The temperatures are warm and the fishing is hot. Our charters have been slamming fish all week! We had several boats catch their limit of Walleye in a couple hours or less during the past week. Along with all the eater sized Walleye being caught, guests are still catching plenty of Walleye that fall in the 19.5 – 28 inch protected slot. The number of fish being caught in that size range has been impressive all spring and summer. We continue to see a trophy over 28 inches here and there as well. The big fish for the week hit the tape at 31 inches. Congrats to Kathleen Fortman for landing (and releasing) that trophy!
Strong bite for musky, northern, walleye, crappies and bluegills - - all going on in and amidst the lakes and the Wisconsin River of Wisconsin's Marathon and Lincoln Counties (near Mosinee and Wausau).
Heavy rains have made for very good water levels in central Wisconsin and with the additional flow, the fish are relating more to predictable structure and current breaks.
Water temps in the Eagle River area are in the low to mid 70s; excellent northern bite, with very good action for musky, smallmouth, and panfish, and good action for walleye and largemouth in the Eagle River, Wisconsin area.
BORDER VIEW LODGE -- LAKE OF THE WOODS ORIGINAL WEEKLY FISHING REPORT
The Walleye action has remained steady during the past week. With warm weather and manageable winds, limits of Walleye and Sauger were easy to come by. Along with good numbers of fish, we are continuing to see an impressive number of fish being caught in the protected slot (19.5 - 28”) and bigger.
Surface water temperatures are in the low 70s and the Walleyes are hanging deep. Anywhere with 30 feet of water is likely to hold fish.
