Eagle River, Wis. (VILAS COUNTY)
Action slowing down for musky, walleye and bass, with a decent bite for northern, and panfish; water temps are starting to drop in the Eagle River, Wisconsin area. Temps are in the mid 60s.
It's that time of year again -- fall fishing patterns coming on, and action has generally slowed down somewhat due to the dropping water temperatures and basic weather changes, but the action will pick up quickly as the patterns stabilize.
Musky action in the Eagle River area is picking up with the fish scattered, but mainly holding in and around weed edges in 3-9 feet of water. A black bucktail with a silver blade has been working well, with surface baits getting hits early and late in the day.
Report on Central Wisconsin Lakes AND the Wisconsin River in Wisconsin's Marathon and Lincoln Counties near Mosinee and Wausau
Editor's note: The daily bag limit for walleyes on many lakes and the Wisconsin River in Central Wisconsin (always check the regulations on the particular water, first) is five (5) fish per day throughout the year while the daily bag limit for walleye in many areas north of Mosinee and Wausau may only be two to three fish because of Native American spearing initiatives and the resulting DNR "quota limits".
Strong crappie and bluegill bite, with decent musky action, and walleye, northern and smallmouth bass fair; water temps have dropped 10 degrees or more in the central Wisconsin area.
BORDER VIEW LODGE - LAKE OF THE WOODS
September is here and it sure feels like fall. We've been having some comfortable temperatures during the day in the upper 60's. It's refreshing to get the humidity out of the air. After a couple cool nights, the bugs are disappearing as well! The ten day forecast shows day time highs in the 60's with overnight lows in the 40's. Fall may be here to stay.
How's the fishing? It's been good; there's no doubt about it.
Borderview Lodge - Lake of the Woods
Another great week of fishing in the books! Many anglers in the Midwest have been experiencing the negative fishing effects of the “dog days of summer.” That is not the case here! The lake has been providing great fishing all summer long. With the warm water temperatures the fish are hanging deep and they are spread out. Without a doubt the downrigging bite has been the most productive. If you want to experience a 150 to 200 plus fish day; downrigging on Lake of the Woods certainly has that potential this time of year.
